We are specialists in correcting behavioral problems in pets. These include aggression, digging, barking, jumping, housebreaking, mouthing etc.
WHY DOES IT
HAPPEN? Most of the time, behavior problems occur because of lack of control or respect. People have busy lives and sometimes do not give enough time or attention to their pets and do not teach them what is acceptable behavior. The owners of these dogs just expect them to know better or think they will outgrow it!
EXAMPLE: Dogs are born with certain traits, but most of the time, it is the owners that create the problem. Take for example a person who locks their dog up or puts them out every time company arrives because they are unruly or jump....this dog is being alienated and is not being allowed important socialization skills.
IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM:
The first step to correcting bad
or wrong behavior is to identify the cause of the problem. Is the dog misbehaving on purpose? Probably not. He or she probably just does not understand what you expect. Or if it is intentional, it may just be a lack of respect.
ESTABLISH A FOUNDATION:
The next step is to establish a foundation. This foundation will be of trust and communication. Without communication, you will not acquire much. This communication should be with praise and positive
reinforcement. A dog will understand the positive more then the negative.
SOCIALIZATION: Finally, socialization is very important.....The more situations you put your dog in, the more they will fit into the family. Take them in the car, take them to the groomer regularly, to the park, to meet other dogs. Let you children participate in the training. Dogs become "dog aggressive" or "kid aggressive" because they are kept from these situations.
WHAT DO I DO IF IT DOES NOT WORK:
Training is a great tool for dogs and humans to have better partnerships. It takes time, but
consistency. Your dog will not perform the same as a friend or neighbors did, or in one day.
